Shopping power

21 May 1999

Five Caterpillar gensets are providing 2.8 MWe for the new El Corte Ingles shopping centre in Madrid. Three gas-fuelled Caterpillar engines are scheduled to expand the power capability to 6.0 MWe.

El Corte Ingles draws a base load of 2.0 MWe from the grid, supplementing additional power needs with the power plant. Hot water from the engines' exhaust and cooling jacket is used as part of a combined heat and power and absorption chiller system. Cooling water at 99oC is passed through an absorption chiller to produce all the complex's air conditioning needs.
