Standby set for Vietnam

21 May 1998

An Atlas Copco QAS series generating set has been installed in Vietnam to provide essential standby services during mains failures at a motor cycle and light truck assembly factory. This is the first QAS series unit to be installed in Vietnam.

The unit has been installed in Dong Nai Province, a region which regularly experiences power failures with frequent interruptions to production facilities, sometimes lasting for complete eight hour production shifts. The power from the standby genset is used for lighting, power tools and for the factory's paint shop.

The installed genset is a model QAS228 Dd with a standby rating of 200 kVA, 380 V at 50 Hz.

Atlas Copco also supplied an oil lubricated compressor to run air tools in the paint shop.

The unit provides up to 90 per cent of its load to the paint shop; the remainder is for essential power tools and lighting in the factory assembly area.

Located in Bien Hoa, the Visuco factory is a joint venture between Suzuki and local company Vikyna. It produces 650 kg trucks and currently two models of motorcycle, with a third expected to start production later this year.
