Unit 2 of Indonesia’s Jawa-2 plant goes into operation

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has completed construction of the natural gas fuelled Jawa-2 unit 2 combined cycle plant at Tanjung Priok on Java Island, Indonesia, about 10 km northeast of central Jakarta.

The Jawa-2 project of PLN, Indonesia’s state owned electricity provider, consists of an 880 MW plant comprising two combined cycle units.

Unit 1 initially went into simple cycle operation this June with output nearing 300 MW and unit 2 started simple cycle operation in July, also producing around 300 MW. The plants were put into operation ahead of schedule, in preparation for the 18th Asian Games.

MHPS scope included two M701F gas turbines as well as two HRSGs, one steam turbine, and auxiliary equipment. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation supplied the generators. The launch of operations as a full combined cycle plant is slated for 2019.

MHPS says it has the biggest gas turbine market share in Indonesia, and with this latest plant has a fleet amounting to about 12 GW.
