A local government council in Queensland, Australia, has given the go-ahead for the construction of a 1000 MW solar farm.
Developer Equis Energy says that the Wandoan South solar farm will be one of the largest solar projects in Australia and the world, and will cost A$1.5 billion to build.
The project will cover 1424 hectares of land and will be connected to Powerlink’s Wandoan South substation. Equis Energy, Asia-Pacific’s largest renewable energy independent power producer (IPP), says it could also add energy storage capacity to the scheme in the future.
The Wandoan South project will bring to 1276 MW the total generation capacity for which Equis has received approval in Australia. It will incorporate up to 3 million solar PV panels, Equis said.
