A regional council in Queensland, Australia, has given approval for the construction of a 2000 MW solar farm.

Australian developer Solar Choice will build the photovoltaic (PV) facility at Bulli Creek, near Millmerran, southern Queensland over the next eight years. The Toowoomba Regional Council has given permission for the solar farm to be constructed in 100-500 MW stages on 13 000 acres of cleared, flat cattle grazing land.

Solar Choice says it is currently finalising the connection process for an initial 550 MW stage with Powerlink and is also planning a number of other "mega-scale" solar projects located near transmission nodes on broad-acre lands with high solar irradiation.

A blog on the firm’s website indicates that it is seeking investors for its pipeline of projects.

It says it will not start construction of Bulli Creek before 2016.
