Swiss energy firm Alpiq has sold two coal-fired power plants in the Czech Republic to the Sev.en Group, it has announced.
The €280 million deal will enable Alpiq to strengthen its business model “in an increasingly decarbonised, digitalised and decentralised energy world”, it said in a statement. The sale of the two plants – Kladno and Zlín – is subject to regulatory approvals in the Czech Republic.
Alpiq said that the move would reduce the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from its power plant fleet by more than 60 per cent. The company said it would use the proceeds from the transaction to develop in growth areas and optimise its balance sheet.
The Kladno coal-fired power plant has an electrical output of 516 MW and was commissioned in 2000. The Zlín thermal power plant generates and delivers electrical energy, process heating and district heating. It has an electrical capacity of 64 MW and a thermal capacity of 376 MW.
