Australia’s Northern Territory government has given major project status to a A$20 billion proposal to build a large-scale solar-storage plant and sub-sea electricity link to Singapore.
Singapore-based Sun Cable revealed plans in June for the 15 000 hectare project, incorporating a 10 GW PV facility and 20-30 GWh energy storage plant as well as a 3500 km-long high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cable running from Australia’s northern coast to Singapore.
The project, located near Tennant Creek, would help to ensure Singapore’s energy security as well as diversify its energy sources, Sun Cable says. The company is planning to use a pre-fabricated solar array technology.
Community consultation for the project will start in late 2019.
