Centrica is to build a 100 MW battery energy storage system in Ireland, it has revealed.
The company is looking at overseas energy markets including Ireland and the USA to build energy storage facilities similar to one being built in Roosecote, north-west England. It is considering three locations in Ireland for its next project – Kilkenny, Athlone and Cahir.
The project is in the early stages of development and could be on-line by 2022, Centrica said.
It started construction of its 49 MW Roosecote storage facility in March 2017. The project is part of a £180 million investment programme in new flexible power plants across the UK, and is due to start operating in late 2018.
