With six hydroelectric plants of a collective 2 000 MW capacity expected to be bought on-line over the next three years, Brazilian utility CPFL Energia SA (CPL) expects to triple earnings from generation in the coming years. Total investment in the plants is around $1 billion, starting from 2001 with the first plant, Monte Claro, already in commercial operation and the two other plants are scheduled to start in the second half of 2005.
