The auction was carried out using Emporion Inc’s online energy marketplace. The auction attracted seven suppliers from four European countries, Emporion said.
The auction took four hours to complete, during which 38 bids, in Euros, were received from the participating suppliers. EDF is hoping to develop an ongoing relationship with the company which finally secured the contract.
EDF worked with Emporion to develop an online, reverse auction that would incorporate European regulatory procurement parameters. The electricity company said it would consider holding further online auctions in the future.
