The Canadian company, Stuart Energy Systems, has been granted a US Patent (No 6,187,155 B1) for an electrode cell separator assembly for a water electrolysis cell, designed to generate hydrogen. The patent covers improvements to the separator-membrane design and its assembly for automated manufacturing.

The improvements will enable automatic production of cell stack technology, Stuart claims, at higher speed and lower cost. It reduces the number of components required and the number of steps needed for automated production of a cell stack. The separator-membrane is a core component of a water electrolysis cell stack used by Stuart in fuel appliances for hydrogen generation. Hydrogen can be burned in fuel cells and other power generation applications.
