The green light has been given for the construction of a 400 MW, £1.3 billion offshore wind farm in the UK. E.On has confirmed its investment decision in the Rampion wind farm, located in the English Channel 13 km from the coastal town of Brighton.

Rampion will comprise 116 wind turbines installed in water depths of 19-40 m and will be the first of the UK’s Round 3 offshore projects to start construction. The UK’s Green Investment Bank (GIB) has acquired a €327 million stake in the project.

E.On will provide construction, operations and maintenance as well as energy management services to the project. This includes the delivery of the connection to the National Grid with marine export cables to shore, approximately 26 km of onshore cables and onshore grid substation assets. E.On will divest these offshore transmission assets under a regulated sales process.
