The European Commission and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) have signed an information exchange and cooperation agreement which is aimed at establishing a framework for developing joint activities and initiatives in support of the development and expansion of the electric power sector. The Memorandum of Understanding was made effective from 1 October 2001 for two years and can be amended or extended by mutual agreement.
The agreement coincides with the establishment of EPRIworldwide, EPRI’s new subsidiary and it Technical Application Centre, located in Brussels. The first workshop is scheduled for early this month, for an initial exchange of information.
According to Rob Turping, EPRI’s executive director for Europe, “Each side of the Atlantic has a lot to gain by exchanging ideas on a wide range of advanced technologies that will contribute to innovation in electric power networks to make them more reliable and increase their value to society.” EPRI, based in Palo Alto, California, was established in 1973 as a centre for public-interest inspired energy and environmental research
