The Front End Engineering Design (FEED) of the Don Valley power project is to be updated by Foster Wheeler after the firm was awarded a contract by Samsung C&T.
Samsung C&T is building the Don Valley project, a 900 MW integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant in the UK. Owned by 2Co, the plant will generate electricity as well as capture carbon dioxide (CO2), which will be piped to the North Sea for storage.
Foster Wheeler will update the Don Valley FEED that was previously developed by another contractor, as well as manage the process licensors’ technical scope for the gasification and acid gas removal units.
It will also develop the key project philosophy documents and project standards for the overall project, which is due to start operating in 2016.
Foster Wheeler has already been appointed by 2Co under a separate contract as the project management consultant for the Don Valley project.
The European Commission has ranked the Don Valley project as highest in a list of bidders competing for funding for the support of carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.
