ContourGlobal and the government of Kosovo have completed the initial phase of the process to select the main construction contractor for the 500 MW Kosovo e Re power plant.
The company says that it received six initial applications this summer from companies bidding for the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the proposed coal-fired power plant.
It has pre-qualified four applications to proceed to the next phase of selection.
CountourGlobal said that the four groups meeting the “robust technical and financial criteria” of the project are: CMEC; a consortium composed of ENKA, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems and Técnicas Reunidas; a consortium of General Electric companies; and Hyundai.
It added that the bidders have proposed equipment supplies from Doosan, General Electric, IHI, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Rafako, Siemens, and Toshiba as well as long-term maintenance services from Alstom Power Service; General Electric; KEPCO; aconsortium of KEPS, HPS, and OES; and a consortium of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, ENKA, and Técnicas Reunidas.
Construction of Kosovo e Re is due to start in late 2019. The project will represent the biggest foreign direct investment in Kosovo and will improve the stability of power supplies.
