The developers of the Kincardine offshore wind farm say the project has reached a major milestone with the delivery of first power.
The Kincardine project is under construction off the coast of Aberdeenshire and is set to be the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm.
Kincardine Offshore Wind Ltd (KOWL) said that the electricity exported from the floating windfarm was despatched from a 2 MW turbine that was the first to be installed at the site. Six MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW units will also be installed at a later date, bringing the output of the site to 50 MW.
The project will use Windfloat semi-submersible foundations from Principle Power. The remaining turbines are due to be installed by 2020.
Spanish firm Cobra, a subsidiary company of Grupo ASC, owns 60 per cent of the project.
