Foresight Group and Belltown power have created a joint venture to develop Belltown’s pipeline of greenfield onshore wind energy projects across the UK.

The two companies are aiming to deliver more than 300 MW of new capacity with a pipeline “focused on sites with excellent potential for wind development, predominantly in Scotland and Wales”. The venture strengthens an existing relationship between the two companies, which started when Foresight acquired a 111MW portfolio of ROC and FiT wind and solar assets in April 2018 that Belltown had brought to commercial operations, and where it continues to act as asset manager.

Projects will be developed on a merchant-only basis, or backed by power purchase agreements or CFD contracts, and will help the UK to achieve its net-zero targets, the companies said.

Belltown has delivered more than 20 onshore wind, solar PV and hydro projects into operations totalling over 200 MW and has a further 2-3 GW in various stages of development, including 335 MW currently entering construction.

Foresight currently manages more than 240 renewable generation assets globally, with a total generating capacity of 2.2 GW.
