The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has signed contracts worth more than $500 million for the supply of equipment for its power generating capacity expansion programme.

Under a number of agreements with SEC, GE Energy is to supply gas turbine generators, technical advisory services and spare parts for several key projects in the country, where electricity demand is growing at eight per cent a year.

The projects include a 960 MW expansion of the Rabigh power plant in Rabigh City on the west coast of Saudi Arabia, for which GE will supply Frame 7EA gas turbines. It will also supply further 7EA units to a 260 MW plant in Jizan City, a 120 MW plant in Qunfutha City, a 111 MW facility in Aljouf City and a 183 MW plant in Tabouk City.
