Greece has awarded contracts for 222 MW of renewable energy capacity in its latest auction.
The country’s Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) said in a statement that 159.65 MW of wind and 61.94 MW of small-scale solar capacity had been secured in the auction, in which developers compete for 20-year contracts for the country’s new renewables support mechanism.
All of the solar projects are less than 1 MW in size, and achieved a weighted average price of €66.66 per MWh. The auction resulted in contracts awarded for nine wind farms ranging in size from 3 MW to 50 MW, and achieved a weighted average bid of €58.58/MWh.
The auction is the second in Greece, which plans to add 2.6 GW of renewable energy capacity to its grid by 2020.
An auction held in July 2018 awarded 171 MW of wind capacity.
