A proposed 615 MWe naphtha-fired power plant at Pipavav in the Amreli district of Gujarat is to be built by Krishak Bharti Cooperative (Kribhco) in conjunction with the Gujarat Power Co. The two companies are expected to set up a joint venture to build the combined cycle project. Kribhco will be the lead promoter of the scheme.
Gujarat Power Corp is also to set up a 375 MWe lignite-fired power plant at Padwa in the Bhavnagar district of the state. The project, originally proposed in 1995, is to be built by the private sector under a build-own-operate and maintain basis. Bids have already been received. Environmental clearance from the state government was obtained in April of this year. Gujarat Power Co is expected to take an equity stake in the scheme.
Meanwhile the Gujarat State Electricity Corp is to set up a 110 MWe combined cycle plant at Dhuvaran in the Kheda district of Gujarat. The plant, comprising two gas turbines and a steam turbine, will burn both natural gas and furnace oil. Bids for the EPC contract for the project will be sought towards the end of this year.
