JFE Engineering Corp. is to build a 75 MWe biomass power plant in Japan using Valmet’s circulating fluidised bed boiler (CFB) technology.

The order is JFE’s first since it signed a cooperation agreement with Valmet last year making it the exclusive supplier of Valmet’s Cymic CFB boilers in Japan.

The plant will be built for MPM Oji Eco Energy Corporation at Mitsubishi Paper Mills Limited’s Hachinohe works. It will use wood chips, palm kernel shell and coal as fuel, JFE said.

The plant is due to start operating in the first half of 2019.
