Equinor has signed contracts worth a total NOK3.3 billion for the development of its Hywind Tampen floating offshore wind farm.
The contracts have been awarded to Kvaerner, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, JDR Cable System and Subsea 7, and represent a “key milestone” in the development of the pioneering wind farm, Equinor said.
Kvaerner will design and build the substructures for the project using its expertise in concrete structures on the Norwegian continental shelf.
The substructures will be constructed at Kværner’s yard at Stord and site at Dommersnes in the Vindafjord in Norway. The contract includes assembly activities, tow-out and installation of completed wind turbines.
Siemens Gamesa will supply the wind turbines for the 88 MW offshore wind farm. JDR Cable System will supply the electrical cables, while Subsea 7 will be responsible for installation of electrical cables and connection to the two North Sea oil platforms that the wind farm will power.
All contracts are subject to final approval of the plan for development and operation by Norwegian authorities. The wind farm is scheduled to start production at the end of 2022.
