Roxas said that the bulk – about $300 million – will be invested by Sun Power, which is planning to construct a 150MWe photovoltaic plant/solar cell. Sun Power, the leading US manufacturer of ultra-high frequency silicon solar cells, is coursing its investments through its local partner in the Philippines, Cypress Manufacturing.

Richard Swanson, president of Sun Power, and Manny Hernadez, chief finance officer of Cypress Manufacturing, said that the project will initially engage in the production of wafer and solar cell processing.

The project is expected to generate 25MWe during the first phase of the operation, before reaching its maximum output of 150MWe in 2006.
