Mitsubishi Electric has won an order to supply the energy management system for what is expected to be the largest battery energy storage system in the world.
Chiyoda Corporation has awarded Mitsubishi Electric a contract to install its BLEnDer RE energy management system to monitor and control the battery and power conditioners of a 240 MW, 720 MWh battery due to be installed at the Kita-Toyotomi substation in Teshio, Hokkaido.
The battery storage project is being led by North Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Corporation, with design and engineering carried out by Chiyoda. It is expected to improve the stability of the electricity grid in Upper Hokkaido, northern Japan, where large amounts of wind energy capacity are planned for construction.
The battery is expected to start operating in early 2023.
