Korea South East Power Corp is planning the development of a 600 MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Wando Island, South Korea.

The firm has reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the project, known as Jeonnam Wando Island, which could eventually reach a capacity of 5000 MW.

The new offshore wind farm will contribute to South Korea’s goal of generating 20 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. It will be located off the island’s south coast.

In December 2016, the Wando County and Korea South East Power Corp established a partnership to jointly develop renewable energy projects in the region.

Earlier in November the company officially opened South Korea’s first commercial offshore wind farm, the 30 MW Tamra offshore project off the island of Jeju.
