For the first time in state history, reputedly, Nevada has suffered rolling blackouts. A July heatwave compounded by a number of plant outages caused demand to rise to a record 3924 MW, resulting in power cuts for around 10 000 people. Although the outage was shortlived, the event is being seen as a wake up call for the state.
