Huaneng Power International is to boost its generating capacity with the construction of a new 1000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating unit in China.

The project at the Huaneng Jinling power plant phase II has received approval from China’s National Development and Reform Commission. It will require an investment of 5.16 billion yuan, according to Huaneng.

The 1000 MW plant will be equipped with electrostatic precipitators, flue gas desulphurisation equipment, denitrification facilities and a continuous emission monitoring system. Huaneng will fund the project through 20 per cent equity and 80 per cent debt.

Huaneng Power International is one of the largest listed power generation companies in China, operating 16 power plants and owning controlling interests in 13 power companies.
