A new office building is taking shape in Jemgum, in Germany’s East Friesland region, to provide a base for round-the-clock monitoring and control of RWE’s existing and future wind farms in both Germany and continental Europe. Construction is by Real Immobilien on a site of approximately 4700m2. Ground was broken symbolically on 23 January. Subject to the granting of approval, construction is to start in the coming weeks, and it is expected to be completed in autumn, to be ready for operation in spring 2026.
The two-storey wind control centre will be designed to meet high sustainability standards. Recycled materials will be used and the use of renewables for electricity and heating is also planned, along with measures to save water. Certification will also be sought in the form of the ‘Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings’ (QNG), awarded by the German Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building.
