The Ohio Power Siting Board has approved three new power projects with a combined generating capacity of 2000 MW. The plants, with an aggregate estimated cost of $1.32 billion, are to be built by Cogentrix Energy Inc, Global Energy Inc and Aquila Inc. Cogentrix is planning a 1100 MW natural gas-fired facility in Center Township, Ohio, with a startup date of June 2004. Global Energy wants to build a 580 MW station at Lima, Ohio which will gasify coal waste for power production.
