Oman’s Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer) has launched a tender to procure 146 MW of hybrid power generation projects at 11 separate sites across the country.

The tender is for solar, diesel and storage hybrid power projects that will help meet the growing electricity requirements of Omani communities that fall outside of the coverage of the nation’s two main grids.

Of the 11 sites identified by Tanweer for the power plants, five are located in Dhofar Governorate, two in Al Wusta, two in South Al Sharqiyah, and one each in Al Dhahirah and Musandam governorates.

The bid closing date is September 19, 2019. Bidders should have a strong track record of large-scale solar power projects and demonstrate experience in developing independent power projects (IPPs) in the Middle East.

The project capacity requirements include for 48 MW of solar, 70 MW diesel generator capacity and 28 MW of battery energy storage. The successful bidder will undertake project development on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) model. Fifteen-year power purchase agreements are on offer.
