Orsted is to merge some of its wind farm clusters in the North Sea into two large-scale projects, it has announced.
The developer is to merge the 420 MW and 240 MW Borkum Riffgrund West 1 and 2 wind farms and the 240 MW OWP West offshore project into a single development called Borkum Riffgrund 3.
It will also merge the 110 MW and 132 MW Gode Wind 3 and 4 projects into one facility named Gode Wind 3.
Ørsted was awarded contracts for the five original projects in offshore wind tenders held in 2017 and 2018. It has yet to take final investment decisions for the projects, it said in a statement.
The merger of the respective project companies has already been completed, Orsted added. Borkum Riffgrund 3 is located about 53 km off the island of Borkum and Gode Wind 3 will be built about 32 km off the island of Norderney.
The wind farms will be connected to the converter platforms DolWin epsilon and DolWin kappa, to be built by transmission system operator TenneT.
