A new solar farm planned for construction in Panama will become one of only a handful of solar facilities around the world to operate without subsidies in a competitive market.

ECOSolar has awarded Solarcentury a contract to build, operate and maintain the 9.9 MWp installation in Coclé province, central Panama, which will be the largest solar farm in the country selling its energy into the spot market.

Solarcentury will work with local firm Hybrytec Solar to install the solar farm, known as Divisa. Hybrytec will manage all electrical and mechanical aspects of the project, including the installation of the PV panels.

The project was financed through a non-recourse loan from the Inter-American Development Bank. Construction started in January 2015 and the plant is scheduled to be connected in May 2015.
