Renewable energy developer Lacour Energy is set to start construction of a large-scale wind and solar plant in Australia after winning consent for the 800 MW wind energy site.
Lacour has received approval for its 800 MW Clarke Creek wind farm in central Queensland. The project would be built adjacent to a planned 400 MW solar farm, which has already received consent.
The developer says it is also considering construction of a battery energy storage facility.
The A$1 billion wind farm is located between Rockhampton and Mackey in the Isaac Shire and Livingstone Shire regions. It would comprise up to 195 wind turbines installed on a mountain range.
The solar farm would be constructed on lower ground close to an existing main road an electricity transmission network.
Construction of the wind and solar farms would take over three years and would be undertaken in stages, Lacour said. The company says it is currently studying the feasibility of the project and that if it is a viable prospect, construction would start in 2019.
