The City of Pickering is demanding a full environmental assessment if the oldest part of the Pickering nuclear plant is allowed to reopen.

Pickering council is asking federal Environment Minister David Anderson to override the decision of the Atomic Energy Control Board (AECB) to carry out a screening level review. Pickering wants the minister to order a full review. Ontario has already turned down Pickering’s formal request for a full review.

The AECB said that it is limiting the assessment to the screening level because there was not sufficient concern in the community for a full panel review.
