EDF Renewables says it has secured all the permits required for the construction and operation of the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm after a French court rejected an appeal against the project.
France’s supreme administrative court, Conseil d’Etat, has ruled against an appeal challenging the 480 MW wind farm’s operating permit. The ruling is an endorsement of the robustness of the project, EDF said.
EDF and its project partner Enbridge joined forces to create project company Eolien Maritime France (EMF) to bid for the project in 2012 in a competitive tender held by the French government. The court’s ruling will allow the company to make progress with the project financing process before the investment is given the final go-ahead, EMF said.
If developed, the wind farm is likely to use GE Haliade 6 MW turbines installed 12-20 km off the cost of France.
The wind farm is due to be commissioned in 2022.
