Two power generation projects underway in Saudi Arabia have reached milestones. On the Red Sea coast, the first unit of the Shoaiba power plant has operated for the first time. The $1.2 billion plant, with a total generating capacity of 1838MW, is due to be completed in 2003. Meanwhile on the Gulf Coast, the first of four 600MW units at the Ghazlan II power station was successfully synchronised and started exporting power last month. This project is also due for completion in 2003. Both projects are being engineered and project managed by PB Power in association with Saudconsult.
