Scottish and Southern electricity company in combination with Wavegen is developing a proposal for a cluster of offshore wave power stations to be sited in the Western Isles, Scotland. They will probably be based on the technology of an offshore wavepower device being developed by Wavegen, to be tested in the waters around Orkney, a group of islands off northern Scotland.

Wavegen was responsible for developing the technology for the world’s only commercial wave power station to date, a 500 kW plant on the shore of the isle of Islay, Scotland. The new generators will be demonstration plants as well as commercial ventures.
