Operations at Tepco’s 15 remaining reactors are still suspended. According to Tepco, it needs to restart eight more BWRs to prevent shortages in the coming two hottest months. The next unit targeted for restart is Fukushima I-6, which passed NISA inspections and is awaiting local approval to return to the grid.

Analysts at Deutsche Securities in Tokyo said that the total cost for the fiscal year ending March 2004 related to the aftermath of the BWR inspection cover-up will be about $1.1 billion. This would include an estimated $830 million for replacement fuel costs.
