Vietnam intends to commission seven power plants before the end of the year, increasing the national generating capacity by 1000 MWe.

Two 250 MWe turbines are to be installed at the Phu My 2-1 power plant. A 220 kV transmission line connecting Phu My 2-1 to Nha Be via the Thi Vai and Long Tau rivers has already been commissioned.

Between March and May, the 56 MWe Ba Ria power plant will be connected to the grid, as will two 74 MWe gas turbines in The Tra Noc power plant in Can Tho province.

Between July and October, the Yaly hydro power plant in Gai Lai province will be officially inaugurated. Two units, each with a capacity of 180 MWe will be commissioned.

Before the end of the year, the first 60 MWe unit at the Song Hinh hydro power plant in the province of Binh Thuan, and four other units of similar capacity at a plant in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province being built by Wärtsilä are due to start generating power.
