This follows ten years of scientific assessment and consultation. A licence from the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency is still required, but the government hopes to have the repository operating next year.

Australia: Following environmental approval of two sites, the federal minister for science has selected one, on a sheep station, 20km east of Woomera in South Australia as the location for Australia's low-level waste repository.
