A novel wind turbine technology is set to be deployed in South Dakota, USA, thanks to a new licensing agreement between Mark Luke Eind Energy and SheerWind.

SheerWind has developed a wind funnel technology, known as Invelox, that collects and channels wind to generate energy using turbines housed at ground level. Its technology can be used in areas of low wind speed and in populated areas.

Mark Luke Wind Energy has licensed the Invelox technology in South Dakota and will integrate the business into its renewable energy division. The agreement is SheerWind’s first in the US and its sixth globally.

The Invelox system captures wind at the top of a funnel-shaped tower and funnels it into a tunnel where it is concentrated and accelerated. A series of wind turbines use the wind to generate energy, before the wind is passed to a diffuser to slow its velocity before it is expelled from the system.

“We are ready to make South Dakota a leader for wind power generation in this country,” said Mark Luke, CEO of Mark Luke Cos. “Integrating Invelox into buildings is a solution that makes our business stand out.”
