A feasibility study carried out on the Eskom PBMR in South Africa produced positive indications, says the World Nuclear Association. It reports that the study predicted five-unit power stations would generate power for between $0.026/kWh and $0.034/kWh provided series production could be achieved to reduce installation costs to $1000/kW. The feasibility study also predicts that if the demonstration project should succeed, orders for 258 of the 140 MW units could be expected by 2027, and 1175 in total over the long term.
