The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has invited bidders for the Shuweihat 1 Power and Desalination Plant, to develop, build, own and operate a 1500 MWe gas-fired power generation and 100 million gallons/day desalination facility.
The project will be on a greenfield site at Jebel Dhana/Shuweihat, 250 km west of Abu Dhabi City. Commercial operation of the first units is due in spring 2003, with the plant entering full operation by summer 2004.
