The Orkney based company Combustion, Energy and Steam, which specialises in valuation and marketing contracts, has formed a joint venture with Wellington based Penshaws Ltd, who specialise in the development and sale of power stations. Their first contract is with New Zealand’s Mighty River Power company, a two year contract to value, market and relocate a complete but unused 250 MW thermal power station at Marsden Point, North Island. The single unit Mitsubishi boiler and condensing steam turbine were partly installed but never commissioned, and studies have already been carried out to verify the possible conversion of the plant from oil firing to gas, coal or Orimulsion, or its incorporation into a larger CCGT power plant using the waste heat from the 400-600 MW of gas turbines.
