United States: Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has been given clearance to proceed with turbine repairs at the 801MWe BWR at Cooper, following approval by NPPD's board of directors of an emergency resolution authorising procurement of the necessary materials and services.
NPPD said that the emergency resolution streamlines the procurement process, reducing the time required to bring the reactor on-line. Cooper was taken off-line on 26 May, when higher than normal vibrations were detected in one of the turbines. The vibration resulted from the breaking of one of the turbine’s rotor blades.
