Turkey’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has launched the country’s first offshore wind tender.
The government is seeking developers for up to 1200 MW of offshore wind capacity, and said that bids for projects would have to be submitted by October 23, 2018.
The offshore wind farm project is part of a major push by Turkey to develop its renewable energy sector. Over the last two years it has successfully held tenders for 1 GW of solar PV capacity and 1 GW of onshore wind energy.
Turkey is looking to exploit the offshore wind resources of its Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea coasts. According to an announcement in Turkey’s Official Gazette, a reverse auction will be held to determine winning bidders.
The tender specifications also include a requirement for 60 per cent local equipment production, and the use of local Turkish engineers.
