The Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) unfinished Columbia Dam is being demolished even before its construction was completed.

TVA spent a total of $83 million on the construction of the dam between 1969 and 1983, when the project was halted as a result of environmental concerns. At this stage, the dam had been 90 per cent completed.

TVA has cited safety as being among the reasons for the dam’s demolition. TVA will spend a total of $2.4 million on the dam demolition and in reshaping the basin so that it resembles the original site.
