UK Power Reserve says it is partnering with Fluence to deliver a large-scale battery energy storage portfolio for the UK market.

The UK-based energy company has announced that Fluence – a joint venture between AES and Siemens – will provide 20 MW battery energy storage systems for the first three sites in its planned 120 MW UK portfolio.

The battery projects will provide flexibility and security for the UK power market and are supported with capacity market contracts secured by UK Power Reserve in the UK’s 2016 auction.

Construction of the three sites – in the Midlands and north west England – is starting, UK Power Reserve said. They are due to start operating in late 2018 and will use Fluence’s Advancion battery technology.

UK Power Reserve was recently acquired by Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries.
