Siemens Westinghouse has received orders for over $2.2 billion for the first three quarters of its fiscal year, which began on 1st October, 1998, to supply power plant equipment and services to US-based power producers. Orders were received from merchant plant and rate-based producers. These will add over 7000 MWe to the US grid. Siemens Westinghouse expects to maintain a similar rate of orders.

Randy Zwirn, president and CEO of Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation, said: “The demand for new generation in the US market has increased dramatically over the past year due to pent-up demand from years of additions at a rate less than the increase in peak demand for electricity. With uncertainties about deregulation being reduced, power producers are actively planning and implementing new projects.”
