Together with Voith Siemens the company has won a euro 100 million contract from state-owned CVG Edelca to rehabilitate five Francis turbines. Each turbine at the station, in Guri on the Caroni, the largest tributary in the Orinoco basin, has an output of 770 MW with a total output of 10.3 GW.
The rehabilitated turbines will be commissioned between 2010 and 2012.
VA Tech will supply and install three new Francis runners and other turbine components with the proceeds from the deal split roughly down the middle between the two partners.
